A couple nights ago, Keep Austin Fishing Admin, Eric Porter, was fishing somewhere on Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas. He was using a swimbait called the Jackall Ganteral Spawn Gill, and this particular lure has taken some abuse over the last two years. He’s only landed 4 fish, prior to this, but those four fish add up to 35 pounds! That’s a little better than 9lbs per fish! Needless to say, he’s no slouch when it comes to big fish, but this particular fish was different.
He had this gut feeling about his scale thinking that he wouldn’t need it… you know, the “If I bring it, I won’t need it” attitude. I’ve done it. You’ve done it. We’ve all done it. 9 times out of 10, we’re usually right. Well, on this night, Eric found himself hung with this double digit beast, that weighed in at 10 lbs 2 oz! He’s lucky he got it in at all! The bait he was using only had the back hook and had a missing fin, but according to him, she swims just fine!
After he was able to get a hold of his friend Sam Ortega, he managed to get a scale on her, verify the weight, get a quick measurement and a safe release. You’ll be able to see the data on this catch soon on the new Toyota Sharelunker Program for Texas.
